Ukraine’s Largest Telco Internet & Mobile Service Provider Ukrtelecom Crashes | Russia Blamed

Yesterday Ukrtelecom suffered a massive cyberattack bringing down services across the country.

Netblocks confirmed that Ukrtelecom service had indeed been disrupted. “Confirmed: A major internet disruption has been registered across Ukraine on national provider Ukrtelecom; real-time network data show connectivity collapsing to 13% of pre-war levels; the provider reports issues assigning new sessions.”

The State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection of Ukraine (SSSCIP), the nation’s technical security and intelligence service, blamed the attack on “the enemy,” Russia. Yuriy Shchygol, head of the SSSCIP, said several cities were lost connectivity last night, including Berdyansk and Melitopol.

Ukrtelecom is restoring services as quickly as they can.

The telco says it restricted customer access to protect military users and critical infrastructure during the incident.

Netblocks, a Global internet monitor, stated that it was the most severe attack to affect Ukraine’s telco giant since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine started.

According to citizens in Ukraine, only the teclo ‘Ukrtelecom’ was hit by the attack, and services operated by other telco companies had been unaffected and seemed to be working as normal.

Ukrtelecom is reported to be Ukraine’s biggest provider of fixed internet services in terms of geographical coverage, but second after Kyivstar in terms of number of clients.
